New York is a Wonderful Place

I am sitting in Brooklyn and I am thinking about all of the wonderful things that have happened this week. I flew up to NYC on Jan 21st and I've spent the last 9 days enjoying incredible food, glutenous to say the least... My belly has been aching for the last few hours because of the Pad Kee Mau from my favorite Thai restaurant off of the Astor Place stop on the 6 train. If you're a New Yorker you may know what I'm talking about, if not it really isn't that big of a deal just know that the food is incredible and you can google the restaurant Klong. OK so too much about the location of the Thai food. A few days ago I hung out with an old friend that lives in Atlanta, but I had to come to New York to actually make the time to spend some time with him. Funny how that happens. Chris has made a new record and has a great new band called The Black Hearts. If you like raunchy folk, Rod Stewart, catchy melody, Country, Rock... then you'll like his stuff. I attended his performance at Pianos and I was highly entertained. Chris is a performer. You can find his website in the top friends of my band's myspace page: myspace.com/thewellreds This past Wednesday (Jan 28th) I spent the evening sharing my songs with some folks at Arlene's Grocery. I opened for a new friend of mine, a very talented songwriter Tom Loschiavo. I highly recommend catching his next show if you live in the Manhattan area. myspace.com/tomloschiavo After the show I had Ethiopian food. Whoa! Amazing! I highly recommend grabbing some ethiopian food if you ever get the chance. You should absolutely discuss your order with someone who has some experience with the cuisine. I've never really had anything like it. Ok so I have far more to tell you than time to write so I will sign off and chat again some other time. I wish you all blessings. with all hope, -Jeremy
Well Red in the Keys!

Dear Friends, I have been meaning to sit and blog about this trip to the keys, but I haven't yet, so now I do. I am sitting in my hotel room with the curtains open, the sun is shining through the windows of my balcony and I can see the marina with all of the "mini-yachts" and the one massive Yacht that docked just a few moments ago. I am witnessing first-hand a lifestyle of which I know absolutely nothing. I have never owned a boat, my grandfather used to have an old 1970's style motor boat, but that was as close as I have ever really come to one. I've been on several. Never been on a cruise, but I hope to one day. I am kind of hoping to wait and see if I marry one day and perhaps spend my first experience on a cruise ship with whoever that may be. Well the point is that I find it really interesting to watch the people who own these boats. The sea is such a dangerous place, I couldn't imagine just spending the night out on the ocean in such a small vessel. Alas, I show my ignorance. I seem to never miss an opportunity. So on to the business at hand. The Well Reds in the Florida Keys. Besides performing every night, Rex and Torin have almost conquered the Nazi Zombies of their latest video game crusades, Sean and I demoed a song one afternoon and we have all been working diligently at promoting our next show at Vinyl. Shameless Plug: Vinyl, Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 www.vinylatlanta.com. Tuesday evening of this past week we went to a Heart-to-Heart dinner. Heart-to-Heart is a ministry of First Baptist Church Islamorada. One of the Security Guards at the club where we are playing has become a good friend of ours. His father is the pastor of FBC Islamorada. Monday night they took us out to dinner at this wonderful bayside restaurant. I ate fried Alligator and felt sick the rest of the night. Not because the food was bad, just because i hadn't had fried food in over a week. We became well aquainted with the pastor and his wife and ended up deciding to perform, at their invitation, for the Heart-to-Heart dinner on Tuesday night. Heart-to-Heart is a food ministry to the Homeless and impoverished of the Islamorada community. We were told that it started as a project of FBC, but soon became something that the entire community invested in. That was really cool to find out. The people were incredibly receptive. We played a set of 5 or 6 songs, took some requests, and then had dinner with everyone. It was incredible. They didn't just order pizza or have hotdogs, they went all-out. We had some of the best roast beef I've ever tasted, potatoes, asparagus, and your pick of gourmet deserts. I haven't eaten that well in a while. It was amazing to see how much the community invested in people who most of us, if we are honest, look down upon or shun because it is inconvenient to love them. One wall was lined with a table filled with food to take home or on the road depending on the situation of the person accepting the food. It looked as thought they had raided the isles of the local grocery store and purchased everything in sight. We were actually forced by these loving people to take back to our hotels a few loaves of bread. More food was available to people than was needed. We were incredibly blessed to be apart of such an incredible service. We went to serve and we were served, we went to bless and we were blessed. We desired to leave empty handed and we left with our arms filled. It was the highlite of my week thus far. Well before I write a book I will end this here. Our residency is not over, but we are close to the end and glady I have no stories of drunken crowd hilarity. However, I do have an incredible story of sober humility and blessing. I hope that we can encourage and be encouraged to give until we have nothing left! With all hope.
Divorce and Oil Changes

I am sitting in the waiting room of the local auto shop near my home in Atlanta. The television is raging on. A couple in Divorce Court. I hate most television and much more when it is like this. I sat down and composed a little poem to communicate my distaste and sadness at this bit of bad television. Hope you are amused and challenged. I do not mean to preach nor to offend any who have lived through or are currently living through divorce. I am writing specifically about the couple on the T.V. as I type. Please understand with hope and patience.
Waiting for the car's oil change
The Television is ridiculous and abrasive
People pompous and vain argue
Their cases to heads in farcical ceremony
It is amusement for the dead in mind and soul
May God have mercy on us; we are depraved
and useless, to make a comedy of marriage
to make entertainment of divorce
It is an evil force manipulating the minds
of those who find this fantastic.
Fantastical it is; to the worst degree.
How Terrible! Horrid! Disgusting!
to see people in supposed "right" mind,
(though right they are not) fight it out
in public issues that should not be fought,
nor should they even cause a quarrel.
Petty and pointless is the course
that leads to their final and sorrowful divorce.
